ShreenathJi Peeth: Center of Excellence, Nathdwara (Rajsamand)

Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur had been selected for establishing a Center of Excellence in 2012-13, following which the university had sent the Government of Rajasthan a proposal for allotment of land for the Center. The present Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amarika Singh continued to press the State Government for land allotment and succeeded in getting it in the village Bilota, Tehsil Delwara, NH 58. that is situated on Nathdwara- Udaipur Road.

In line with the New Education Policy the Shreenath Peeth, the extension Center of excellence of MLSU, will provide new opportunities for education and research to the people of tribal dominant region of Udaipur.This Center would work upon the principle of nurturing an interface between Indian Knowledge Systems of the past and the advancements in the field of Modern Science in the present. The Shreenathji Peeth would develop as an important Knowledge center, besides being a Pilgrimage for Vaishnav Sect devotees visiting Nathdwara. It would acquaint the visitors with the academic aspects of the Vaishnav Philosophy. The students of the region will get an opportunity to study Skill Courses that will enhance their employability.

New Education Policy lays special emphasis on Local Culture, Folk Traditions and conservation of Tribal/ Folk Art and Culture. The Center of Excellence Shreenath Peeth will focus equally upon Classical Traditions and Local/Folk Culture.

The University will develop a Consciousness of National Unity, Integrity, through an integration of Vedic and Bhakti Traditions, and combining the Local with the Classical Traditions of India.

Bhakti Tradition and Vedic Studies

  • Every Religion places its faith in Bhakti which is centred in the Humane values of Truth, Service, Dedication, Sacrifice, Non- Violence, and Empathy, in order to attain the goal of Transcendental Peace and Supreme Bliss. Bhakti is but Life in form. This Section would offer courses in Shree Vaishnav Tradition, and Shuddhadvait Pushtimargiya Shree Vallabh Vedant and related Philosophic Traditions.
  • The contribution of Mahaprabhuji to the Indian Knowledge and Philosophic Traditions will be taught in this section. The Syllabi would include Mahaprabhu Shree Vallabhacharya’s literature- Gayatri-bhashya, Mimansa- karika, Tatvarthdeep, Sarvnirnay Prakaran, Bhagvatarthnirnay and Shreemadbhagvat’s Subodhini Teeka, Brahmsutra’s Anubhashya. Mahaprabhuji’s Stotra Sahitya Grantha- Shodashi, etc.
  • The Peeth would be a Center for the study of entire literature written in Sanskrit, Brij, and Hindi languages in the tradition of Shree Vallabhacharya’s 84 Baithakas.
  • It would have the most developed Library for Indian Religion, Philosophy, and Bhakti studies. The Peeth would house a Museum of Vaishnav Pushtimargiy Parampara that would have exhibits of the Art, Culture, and History of Mewar as well.
  • Academic events will be held to discuss the discourses of Shree Ramanujacharya, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Madhvacharya, Nimbarkacharya, Ramanandacharya of the Vaishnav tradition. Ths would be a place for discourses and development of practicable perspectives in the pursuit of common man’s welfare, and every one’s progress. Academic discourses will be shaped on Rigveda, Bhakti-the essence of all worship, Maharshi Narad and Maharshi Shandilya- the supreme mystics.
  • Studies will be done about the Ritualistic aspects of Bhakti and Agam Shastras like Paanchratra Vaikhanas. Bhaktitatva of Shakt , Shaiv etcetera Prasthana of Panchdevopasana will be studied at the Peeth.
  • The courses will be offered in the online mode as well so that everyone in the world who is curious about Indian Knowledge systems related to Bhakti tradition may avail of the opportunity provided by the Peeth.
  • The Shreenathji Peeth would encourage research in the area of Vallabh Vedant Bhakti and Philosophy.
  • Shreenathji Peeth would encourage Vedic Studies, since Vedas are the origin of Indian Religion, Philosophy, and Knowledge. Schiool of Chaturved and Vedas Recitation skills will be developed. For Vedic Studies combined programmed will be planned in collaboration with Sukhadia University’s Shree Kallaji Campus, Nimbaheda. For Conservind Vedic Studies Shree Nathwdara is an appropriate place where The Center would work for increasing awareness about the very useful and rich Knowledge enshrinein our Vedas.
  • The Center of Excellence would offer employability enhancing courses related to Shreemadbhagvad, Shreemadbhagwadgita, Shree Vaishnav Parampara, Vedic Jyotish, Karmkand, Porohitya, Temple management, Religious Tourism, Temple Workship Rituals, etc.

  • This section will offer courses in Tribal/Folk Literature, Traditions, and Culture. The literature and culture of the people will be included in the syllabi.
  • Connecting with the Folk Traditions leads students to an awareness of collectivism, and consciousness of their shared humanity. The students will form a bond with the environment , natural as well as human. The understanding of Folk/ Tribal life and culture will create a sensibility that is sensitive to the multiple forms of life and culture around them.
  • Knowledge of indigenous traditions, practices, and arts would sensitise the scholars to the immensity of nature and its sacred link with humans.
  • The crucial challenge, at present, is that of Sustainable Development and a close understanding of Folk/Tribal life is very important in bringing about this awareness.
  • Academic studies of the Cultural aspects of the region will help conserve the oral traditions, Arts, Dances, Theatre, etc. of the region.
  • Sanjhhi and Painting Style of Nathdwara, and Molela’s Clay modelling are already world famous. Courses will be offered in them.
  • Vaishnav Keertan Style peculiar to Nathdwara will also be offered as an academic course in music.
